Determine Required Capacity:

For forklift trucks: 90% of the gross weight.

For powered pallet trucks: 67% of the gross weight.
Example:
Weight of Forklift: 5,500 lbs.
Weight of Heaviest Load: 10,000 lbs.
Gross Weight: 15,500 lbs.
Required Capacity = 15,500 x 0.90 = 13,950 lbs. -

Select Dockboard Width:
Add 12" to the width of equipment to be used on the dockboard. -
Determine Height Differential:
Measure the vertical distance from the dock floor to the truck floor.
